I was plucked from a homeless hostel in Caernarfon to join the RAF by a wily RAF Liaison officer. He gave a lecture to us in the GISDA Homeless hostel, where I had been living for 2 years. The prospect of earning ANY money soon had me journeying to RAF Halton and the wonderful No1 School of Technical Training at RAF Cosford.  There I studied for 14 Months to be an Aircraft Electrician. My first posting was on 25(F)Sqn RAF Leeming, tending to F3 Tornado ADV with several interim postings in Prince Sultan Air Base, Al Kharj Saudi Arabia.  Naivety and my inability to keep my young nose clean put my RAF career second to jankas restrictions. Eventually I had to realise that although I felt an aptitude to engineering, life in a blue suit at that time in my life was not meant to be and left the RAF after 6 years. Thankfully BRAMA Ltd weren’t as fussy and I fitted in quite well with my fellow civvie North Walian reprobates on 208(R)Sqn, working BAe Hawk Mk T1/T1A. Me, Zena and our Daughter Aneesa (Now 20) moved to Holyhead and we were soon joined by new additions to our family, Skye (6) and Kaila (2). I finished my NVQ Level 3 in Aircraft Maintenance in 3 Months and eventually became Avionic/Electrical trade manger on 19(F)Sqn completing a total of 4 years with BRAMA Ltd (absorbed by Babcock). I then applied to the wonderful company that was VT (Also taken over by Babcock) to maintain Sea Kings as a multi skilled, prodigious all trade Cross trade technician here at SKIOS RAF Valley.  I speak fluent welsh and am happy to feign a translation to anyone gullible enough to believe what I tell them Mwahahahaha.  I enjoy eating kebabs, hill walking and Welsh Rugby.  I was Captain of Holyhead Rugby Club from 2006 to 2008.  I am a keen cyclist and cycle to work for every shift, rain, shine or hurricane!

I was born and raised in South Shields which is a small town just outside of Newcastle. After spending a few years in the Army Air Corps I met my now wife Shaz and settled in Sunny Holyhead where we still live today with our two beautiful daughters Amie and Laura. I’ve worked in numerous places in Holyhead starting with Cocon Construction where I met some wonderful characters who I have remained friends with for nearly twenty years now. I joined BRAMA in 1999 as an Aircraft handler and very soon felt the urge to move up the ladder, I spent two years studying in Bangor College on a day release and achieved my O.N.C in electrical and mechanical engineering shortly followed by my N.V.Q level three in aeronautical engineering. I reached the grade of trade manager and was promoted to deputy eng ops controller with the added responsibilities of the visiting aircraft department at Valley which I believe in one of the busiest VAS sections in the Royal Air Force. I must say that my role was made so easy with the help of my colleague and friend Del Williams who throughout the years kept that department running smoothly. I then like many others was drawn to the Sea King contract and the idea of working once again in an operational squadron with the search and rescue ethos really appealed to me. My spare time or lack of it is filled with anything help for heroes related. I've got a passion for this cause and I feel privileged to be part of two teams. Firstly my full time role working with the heroes who are the search and rescue crews and secondly the H4H team who really do know how to provide the best possible care for our injured/sick heroes from the armed services. I will always have a h4h related project or event that will require various types of support, so if you feel you would like to “do your bit” for our blokes then please contact me and join us in making a difference to their lives. My Latest projects are firstly accompanying Paul Georgenson on a cycle ride from Cardiff to Holyhead.  Afterwards I'm trying to form a team to join an H4H national event in August when we will walk a section of Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland. Anyone who wants to be part of this can visit the help for heroes website at www.helpforheroes.org.uk or ring me on mob 07967547381 land line 01407 763210.
